Metal Braces
Metal braces are made from stainless steel and are popular with the young set; who love using the various colors available for ligature ties. These traditional braces are appearing on more and more adults, as they decrease in size and increase in comfort.
Metal braces use a system of brackets and wires to slowly move your teeth into the desired position. The small metal brackets are glued to the front of the teeth. Small wires are shaped to the ideal shape of your smile. Once threaded through the brackets, the wires struggle to return to their original shape. This process gradually pressures your teeth into your perfect smile.
The process usually lasts 6 to 30 months, although this timeframe is different for each patient’s needs.
Gold Braces
Gold braces offer more than visual appeal as they provide the strength of metal while blending in with your natural tooth color. The foundation of these braces is still stainless steel, as with metal braces. However, the metal has been coated with 24-karat gold. The resulting product won’t fade or change.
The cost of gold braces is surprisingly comparable to most clear braces.
After your braces are removed, you’ll likely need to wear a retainer for six months to a year to keep teeth from shifting into their original position.
